Mass Shootings ---Reflections Upon the Real Reasons
The young man doesn’t have: PLACE IDENTITY—where his ancestors lived and where he lives and belongs
The young man doesn’t have FAMILY IDENTITY—his grandparents and parents live in subdivisions that are not intergenerational and may not be near where he lives. He doesn’t have FOOD IDENTITY—he doesn’t have to grow, harvest, or hunt
The young man doesn’t have RITUAL IDENTITY: when a boy becomes a certain age, he is involved in the rites to become an adult—to take his place in the family and the community. This is a strong SPIRITUAL IDENTITY.
The young man doesn’t have SCHOOL IDENTITY : the school used to compliment and add to family identity. The school used to be the center for COMMUNITY IDENTITY.
He is not LEAD to growth. He is on his own to figure out where and how he fits in.
What DOES he have?

He has identity that is too broad for him to identify with: MALL
MUSIC AND VIDEOS
INTERNET
PEER PRESSURE AND SEX
He is not a participant in most of these; he is a voyeur
He is susceptible to the messages of POWER because he has no power; there is no reason to live for himself or for anyone else
He has been sexually commoditized; the act means nothing. It leaves him more lonely than he was before
His music is not spiritual; it is manic- depressive and sadistic
He has not been taught to READ TO INFORM HIS LIFE
His values are relativistic, not absolute
He doesn’t know how he fits into the FAMILY, the COMMUNITY or the WORLD so he doesn’t care
THE GIRLS ARE NOT FAR BEHIND!
