Day 9 Story 1 as told by Filomena
Rinuccio Palermini and Allesandro Chiarmontesi are both in love with a widow named Francesca de Lazzari. They annoy her with messages of love. It just so happens that an ugly beastly man has just died and been brought to the cemetery of the friars. Francesca tells her maid to tell each one that they are to go to the cemetery ; change clothes with the dead man, and remain in the coffin until someone comes for each one. Each had fear of doing what she asked but they did.
Rinuccio left his house at midnight. Allesandro, already being in the coffin, was frightened upon hearing someone approaching. Rinuccio carries Allesandro until he meets the police and then drops him. Allesandro still has the dead man’s clothes on. Francesca can see this from her window. They run; she laughs. Next morning there is no corpse in the coffin cause Allkesandro kicked it way over to the side out of vie. The people think the devils came to take it—all except the woman who knew!
Day 9 Story 2 as told by Elisa
Isabetta is in a nunnery. She has a lover. One of the other nuns sees him leaving her cell and tells the Abess. When the nun has her lover again, the Abess was informed—late at night; and she scrambles to put on her veil and clothes because she, herself, was laying with a priest and could not let that be known. In her haste, instead of her veil on top of her head, she mistakenly takes the priest’s breeches. When the young nun accused herself of indiscretion sees that she says, “ Mother, tie up your wimple and then scold me to your heart’s content!”
Day 9 Story 3 as told by Filostrato
This is another story about Calandrino! He was bequeathed 800 lire. His friends wanted him to spend it so they tricked him into it. They make Calaandrino think he is sick; he looks sick so they suggest he go home and go to bed. They insist he send a urine sample to the doctor. Now he is worried. “Listen Calandrino,” says the doctor. “There’s nothing wrong with you except you are pregnant!”
“Woe is me; it’s all your fault, wife, because you always want to be on top!” Bruno and Buffalmacco laugh! Calandrino spends his 800 lire to get rid of it giving the doctor 3 capons to boot! A happy ending for a foolish man!
Day 9 Story 4 as told by Neifile
There were 2 youths both called Cecco—they both hated their fathers. One decides to go to Marches of Ancona; the other offers his services as a servant to the first. The first Cecco knew of the second man’s gambling and drinking habits and has occasion to really know them firsthand. They arrive at a hostelry. While the first one sleeps, the second one takes his money. He cries robbery and everyone in the inn is upset. The second one says he had to pawn his shirt and could the first one retrieve it for him? The first one is at the end of his patience and so rides away leaving the econd one behind. The second gets an idea! He cries “Stop, Thief” All the peasants working in the field apprehend the first one while the econd one tells them it is HE who has been ribbed! They undressed the first, and gave his clothes to the second Cecco! An unhappy ending!
Day 9 Story 5 as told by Fiammetta
Nicolo Cornacchini had Bruno and Buffalmacco decorate a villa for him along with Nello and Calandrino. Nicolo’s son invited a woman to the villa named Niccolosa who was kept by a pimp. Calandrino is taken with her. Bruno tells Buffalmacco and Nello about it. They have sport with Calandrino for several months.
“Would you agree to approach her with a charm to see if she responds to you,” they ask. He agrees, and at that point they tell his wife about this and they want her to confront him about it.
When the time was right Callandrino touched Niccolosa with the charm; she throws him to the ground and as he forced kisses upon her, in walks Nollo with Calandrino’s wife! The wife pecks and claws at Calandrino, and he goes home without his love all scratched up!
Day 9 Story 6 as told by Pamfilo
A poor man was an innkeeper. He had a good looking daughter who a youth fell in love with. The youth did not want to do anything shameful with the woman, so he makes up a story that the innkeeper needs to give him lodging for the night because he and 2 friends cannot make it to Florence in one day. The poor innkeeper only had 1 bedroom with 3 beds; one for himself and wife; I for his daughter; and 1 for the men.
The youth slips into the daughter’s bed while everyone is sleeping and has his fun but then the cat awakens her mother. The guest (Adriano) gets up to pee and moves the 3rd bed. The woman comes back from scolding the cat and gropes around in the dark until she finds Adriano (the guest). She thinks it’s her husband. He “heaves ho” with her. The youth gets up; finds the bed in the way, thinking it was his host’s. The youth touches the host—thinking it was his friend; host gets angry. The woman realizes a mistake has happened—tells her husband she has laid with Nicolosa all night. The woman convinces her husband the youth was a sleepwalker and walked in his dreaming state. All was well!
Day 9 Story 7 as told by Pampinea
Talo di Molese married Margharita who had a disagreeable disposition. Talo had a dream that his disagreeable wife was being strangled by a wolf. He admonishes her to not leave the house. She thinks to herself that he thinks he has frightened her from doing what she wants to do. So the next day, she goes into the woods and a wolf grabbed her by the throat. Shepherds were able to get the wolf to release her, but she was ravished and disfigured from that point on! Too bad she did not listen to her husband!
Day 9 Story 8 as told by Lauretta
Ciacco hangs around with rich people. Biondello does the same. Biondello meets Ciacco one day, and Cieed in winning the love of his fellow man. “LOVE” answered Soloman—go to Goose Bridge.” Josepho and Melisso meet up afterwards. They were crossing a bridge and one of the mules became frightened. The muleteer used a stick on him to make him move. The men told him to stop—being kind to the animal is the way to make it obey. They come across a woman who is being beaten.
“Learn to love” as Soloman toold you, “and you will be loved.”

Day 9 Story 10 as told by Dioneo
Brother John peddles goods at fairs. He was friends with a man named Pietro. They honored each other by staying at each other’s places when traveling.
Pietro only had a small bed for him and his wife so the priest stayed in the stable. The wife offers to sleep with a neighbor friend, s the two men can share the bed.
“Don’t worry about me,” says the priest. I can change the mare into a lass. “Ask him how he does that; if the charm works for him then you can have a mare by dayand a lass at night, and we can make twice as much money,” says the wife.
“O.K.” says the priest but you cannot say a SINGLE WORD while I show you how.” He has the woman stay on all fours; passes his hands over her body parts, and when it comes to the tail, he sticks his penis into the hole. Then Petro speaks! I don’t want the tail there! At that point the spell is broken, but the wife admonishes her husband by saying, “You ruined our chances—whenever did you see a mare without a tail?”
